Fall Mullet Run at Ponce Inlet: What Is Biting in October and November
September 24th, 2026
Ask anyone who fishes Ponce Inlet regularly what their favourite time of year is and most of them will say the same thing. The fall mullet run is the best few weeks on this stretch of coast, and it is happening right now.
Here is what is going on out there and what we are putting people on.
What the mullet run is
Through the fall, huge schools of mullet move south along the Florida coast and funnel past Ponce Inlet. They move in dark bands you can often spot from the boat. Every predator in the area follows them, which means for a few weeks the fish are concentrated and feeding hard instead of scattered.
It is the one time of year when the fishing comes to you.
What we are catching
Bull redfish
The headliners. Twenty to forty pound fish that spend most of the year offshore push into the inlet and the river behind the bait. Big fish, long runs, and the reason a lot of people book in October. We run dedicated bull redfish charters through the season.
Snook
Stacked around structure and the inlet, hitting the bait hard.
Speckled trout
Steady action on the flats and good eating.
Bluefish and Spanish mackerel
Fast, aggressive and a lot of fun on light tackle. Great for kids and first timers because the bite is so willing.
Jack crevalle
Pound for pound one of the hardest pulling fish in the water. Nobody targets them specifically and everybody remembers catching one.
Flounder
The fall flounder run overlaps the mullet run and they are worth targeting around the inlet.
Inshore or offshore this time of year
During the run, inshore is where most of the action is, because the bait and the fish behind it are close to shore and inside the inlet. If your group wants a big fight without a long ride, inshore is the call.
Offshore is still producing too, with snapper, grouper and shark trips running. If your group wants to get out into the deep, that is on the table.
Not sure? Tell us who is coming and what you are after and we will sort it out.
Good to know before you book
October and November are the busiest weeks of our year. Weekends go first, and weather moves the bite around, so having a date locked in early matters more now than it does in the summer.
Every trip includes your fishing licenses, rods, reels, bait and tackle, ice and a cooler. We fish with Florida Fishing Products reels and Bull Bay rods. Captain Jamie runs trips for everyone from first timers to serious anglers, so do not talk yourself out of it if your group is new to this.
If you want to eat what you catch, ask about Hook N’ Cook when you book.
